Something For The Classroom

In between laundry and packing (yep...again), I got a little creative and crafty this afternoon. I made an altered clipboard for the classroom! Well, actually for right outside the door. Currently, each classroom has this plastic thing with pictures from clip art on it to tell where we are exactly when we leave the classroom. And last year, it didn't even have my name on it. I had to put a little post-it note with my name on it because it still had the last teacher's name at the top. Anyway, I thought this was a much better alternative. Plus, it's a whole lot cuter too!

Very cute sign. I have to admit, however, that I do not miss teaching in a classroom even for a second. I'd rather live in my car than go back, and I'm not really exaggerating, which is sad. I give you a ton of credit for what you do.

Lori: Thank you!

Jaded: Teaching is hard work and it takes a lot out of a person, but for now I think it's worth it. Thanks for stopping by.

OMG, this is a terrific idea. How cute is that! Nice job! Maybe I can make something like this for all of my teacher friends .... I have three of them in my inner circle!

Too, too cute!

Yours is cute. I am planning on making one for my classroom too. I did not like what I had last year. I am not sure how I am going to do it, but I like your clipboard idea. Very Cute!!

Diva: I went to a class on altered clipboards and I think they are great! I've done one girlie one with my name on it. It hangs in my scrapbook room, one with a beachy theme (which you can find in the archives under scrapbooking) for a friend, and now this one for my classroom. They are pretty easy...just a little messy with the modge podge!

Lindsey: Thank you! The only limit is your imagination!

Nina: Maranda wanted to see it so I'm bringing it with me this week. My cousin also wants one so maybe I could do a little "class" if anyone is interested and wants me to show them how to make it. Can't wait for the beach!!!

Valerie: I'm glad that there are scrappers out there that read my blog and post things on theirs. That's how I get the best ideas. I scraplift!

I love the clipboard! I would love to learn how to do those. Talk about SO cute and I know all the other teachers are going to be SO jealous of your clipboard. Love it, great job!!

I taught for 5 years at an out of district placement for kids who were severely emotionally disturbed/behaviorally disordered. (I have a Master's Degree in Special Education) The fact is that many of the kids I taughter are now either dead or in jail. 5 years was enough, although i have also taught in public high school and at the local community and state colleges. I liked teaching college, but the money - as you know - isn't great. Now I teach voice, acting and music theory privately from a music studio I have in my home. The sad fact is that now I make twice the money for half the work. And I never have to leave home!

Like I said, I give you a great deal of credit. I never said it wasn't worth it, only that I burned out after 8 years or so.
